Hello everyone!

My name is Pat. I've been working on this game in my spare time for the past several years. It's my first major product and in the spirit of the subject of the game I've released it for free. NeonRun is primarily a mobile game, so check it out on Google Play so you can play it on the toilet!

I made NeonRun mostly out of inspiration from the Synthwave/Outrun genre. I wanted to capture the kind of feeling of being a badass cyber-runner a la Neuromancer, and I wanted it take place in some way in my home city of Baltimore. I also wanted to come up with an effective short-to-medium game loop with some procedural generation involved in the level design and especially in guns. I had to make some redesigns of the original idea in order to make the game work for mobile, the biggest change being the only-move-forward level design. Additionally, I wanted to nail down enemy spawning and decent animations, which I think I accomplished on the latter, but maybe not so much on the former.

Ultimately, I wanted to produce something big, big at least for me. In order to produce this game I had to learn some visual design, UI design (to only modest success in my opinion), 3D modeling, coding, sound design, just about everything! The only things not done by me are some of the fonts and a few ambient tracks (credits in-game!), as well as the amazing soundtrack produced by J-Apollo Productions and the excellent voice acting done by my friend Matthew Wells. Kudos also to Samuel Crowe, the artist who created the mobile app icon, Razorback's glorious visage, and some promo materials.

NeonRun is more than anything a personal project for me. I needed to make good on a promise to my younger self that I would hand-make a video game. And though this game is thoroughly hand-made in some of the worst ways, I also hope you find it hand-made in some of the best ways as well.
